ID and Age Rules for Tattoos and Piercings
Timebomb Croydon checks photo ID for every tattoo and every piercing. Coming without valid ID is the most common reason people get turned away, so check this page before you travel.
Tattoos: 18 and over only
In the UK it is against the law to tattoo anyone under 18, even with a parent's consent. Everyone getting tattooed must show photo ID that proves they are 18 or over.
Piercings: rules by age
| Age | What you need |
|---|---|
| Under 16 | Must come with a parent or guardian. Both of you show photo ID. If your surnames are different, bring a birth certificate as well. Ear lobes are available from age 10; most other piercings start at 14. |
| 16 and 17 | No parental consent needed, but you must show valid photo ID. |
| 18 and over | Valid photo ID. 18 is also the minimum age for nipple, cheek, Christina and VCH piercings. |
Minimum ages for each piercing are listed on the piercing prices page.
